3 months!

Evelyn, you are 3 months (plus 1 week) old! I don't know if I can really say "I can't believe it... time is flying by!", because that wouldn't be totally true. I almost feel like you've been here longer! In a good way, of course. :) We just love you to pieces.

Some random tidbits about E at 3 months:

She is SUCH a joy. David and I talk often about how we have been blessed with 3 pretty easy, by-the-book babies. I am so thankful for that. I think God knows me well enough to not give me a colicky baby. He gives those little ones to mothers with more patience than I am able to exhibit. ;)

I've said it before, I'll say it again, and this probably won't be the last time I'll say it: Its been soooo fun having a girl! Obviously, at this point, clothes and "stuff" are really the only differences between her and my boys, but after 7 years of only boy stuff in my house, its been such a delight to see little girl things. Shopping (mostly consignment) for her has been so much fun. I will admit that I have felt a little overwhelmed at times, however, when it comes to figuring out an entire outfit for Evelyn. There's a dress. But it's sleeveless so you have to have a long sleeved shirt under it since its winter. Then there's tights. Oh, and don't forget the bloomers that come with the dress. But wait, do you use that even when she has tights on? I could go on and on. I don't know if there are "rules" when it comes to dressing a little girl... but I hope if there are, that I will figure them out sooner than later. :)

People often ask me what's been the hardest thing about having 3 kids. I always answer with "having to work around everyone's schedules". For instance, at a time Evie might normally go down for a nice long nap in her crib, we have to get in the car to take or pick up Camden from school. She falls asleep in the car, so when we get home I will carefully bring in her carseat, take it upstairs and put it in her room, with her still in it. I'd say more often than not, she will wake up. So, that results in an incomplete nap that she would have been able to have had we not needed to leave the house. Things like that have been the hardest thing to deal with. The more kids you have, the busier you are, and the older the kids are - the busier THEY are! But, all that to say... Evelyn is a great "third child" and has really fit in well with our busy days.

Evelyn's schedule in a nutshell:
-Wakes up at 8am
-Eats every 3 hours (8, 11, 2, 5, 8... give or take 30 min)
-Naps after about an hour and a half to 2 hours of being awake.

She is eating 7 oz at a time (the girl can EAT... I am already debating giving her 8 oz!)

We are still swaddling her for naps and for bedtime, which she loves. I had to buy a larger swaddle blanket because she's totally outgrown the one we had been using since she was born!

We have started letting her cry it out when she goes down for naps and bedtime at night. Unless she's giving us an "i'm in pain" cry, we don't get her back out of her crib once we lay her down. We make sure she's changed, burped well, and is swaddled nice and tight, then it's time to say goodnight. She will usually cry for no more than 5 minutes! It's never easy to listen to your baby cry, but I do think its easier since its my third.

85% of the time she will sleep completely through the night without making a single peep. The other 15% of the time, she'll cry out at night because she's gotten her arms out of her swaddle or she wants her paci. Eventually I'll let her cry it out then too, but for now I've been going in to re-swaddle, give paci, and then she goes back to sleep within seconds.

She's been using her bumbo now for a few weeks, and loves it! She's got great neck-control in this thing, but doesn't usually love tummy time.

I am loving this age. She's entering into the baby stages that I love. We go in 3 weeks for her 4-month checkup, and I can't wait to see how she's grown. I'm going to guess she's at least 14 pounds, if not 14.5. I think Evelyn is definitely ready for rice cereal, seeing as her appetite is quite large. I just hope she likes eating food from a spoon... neither of the boys did and it was not a fun stage to go through. Come on Evie, show me that you love to eat! :)

Her first 3 months have been good to us... now onto 4!

She is such a cutie!

As for "rules" for dressing a girl - I don't think there are any. For example: we have never put Leiana in tights - we just have her wear pants or "leggings" with socks under dresses (because it's easier with diaper changes, and the nursery workers at church appreciate it more). Derek thinks bloomers are silly, so we've never done that either. Basically, the rules are: what do you think is cute, easy, and modest... and dress her in that. :)

Ashley, she is so cute! I'm so jealous of the hair! I laughed out loud when you said God gives colic babies to moms with more patience. I am living proof that is not the case!!! You just get through it though. I am a fan of bloomers, but mainly when they aren't wearing tights or if the dress is shorter. I just don't like the diaper showing, so bloomers cover that up. But if they're wearing tights, I don't typically use it (again, unless it's a short dress). Haha...here I am talking like an expert. Just do what you think looks good!

Love the pictures of sweet Evie. She's always smiling!! I agree that it can be daunting to dress a girl in the winter (dress, tights/leggings, shirt, sweater) but in the summer it is a total breeze! Just slip a little summer dress on them and they're ready to go.
