David and I were just discussing last night how faithful the Lord has been to us. We have been praying every night for our marriage, our children, our families, etc. Well, one thing we have been praying for specifically for a while now is how to bibically parent our oldest son, Camden. He's definitely gotten a little more challenging as he's aged. According to James Dobson, he's definitely not a strong willed child, which we are thankful for. However, there have just been many situations recently where David and I were unsure of how to handle it exactly right. So, we began praying for help. Well, within the same couple of weeks, we felt like God answered our prayers in two obvious ways. First, we heard about a 3-month class that our church is offering on Parenting in today's society. It's at the same hour as our other sunday school class, which we love, but David and I both knew immediately that the parenting class is where we should be. Then, for Christmas, my parents gave us the DVD series of James Dobson's "Bringing Up Boys". How amazing that now we have tons of biblical advice coming from both of those things. We are so excited to learn and apply everything the Lord is going to show us. We have been entrusted these precious children, but we know we can't do it on our own.
Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. ~Deuteronomy 11:18,19

thank you for this post. we all need reminders of God's faithfulness.
not that i have any experience with having a 4 year old, but i do know that God will show you the best way to parent him. and you and david are such wonderful parents, i know the Lord will bless you in your parenting.
His strength is made perfect in weakness... even when that weakness is disciplining our children.
you're so encouraging, love you.
David and Ashley,
You are great parents. How do I know? I know because of the one sentence that said you PRAYED for your marriage and your parenting. You will make mistakes, but God will be glorified through them. You will second guess yourself, more often than you like...but God will be there, comforting you and lighting the path. Parenting is a job that cannot be done correctly without God's guidance, wisdom and love. It is a blessing to be called to something that keeps you on your knees! Happy New Year!
How encouraging! We have Dobson's book on raising boys if you ever want to borrow it. I gave it to Nate after Jonah was born.
Hi Ashley!
Found your blog from the Hickman's link. Congratulations on your 2nd little one. My husband and I just took a class at our church- Shepherding a Child's Heart by Tedd Tripp. Definitely recommend it- or "Don't Make Me Count to Three" by Ginger Plowman. They are the most amazing parenting books I've seen out there- they really get to the heart issues. Blessings to you! -Kristin (Abbamonte) Kocher :-)
