how to get your baby to eat foods they don't really like

Anderson has a couple of foods that he just doesn't like. He will spit them out, throw them off his high chair, or very politely hand them back to me. A couple of these foods include green beans, carrots, and oranges. Who doesn't like oranges? Well, I have discovered a couple of things that will get him to eat all of these things, and it works every time.

1. Give him a fork. Oddly enough, if he has a fork in his hand, he will eat the food on his tray. How weird is that?! He will also gobble them up if I put the food on the fork for him to put into his own mouth.
2. Give him the refused food when he's NOT in his high chair. Sometimes I'll take the bowl of green beans, or whatever it is he refuses to eat, and sit down on the floor. He'll come over to me and eat them right up!
3. Here's my ultimate mommy confession. I have discovered that Anderson will eat ANYTHING off the floor or out of the seat of his high chair. If some of his veggies get thrown onto the floor, I just leave them there and know that he'll eat them when he gets down. Terrible, I know! But hey, they end up in his belly!

If you are having picky toddler problems, you should try one (or all) of these things. They work like a charm for me!

hilarious. Mecaden used to be the same way with the fork.

sometimes Levi wants to be fed from a spoon. Other times he wants me to put it in his mouth with my hand. And then other times he likes to pick it up himself. I have oftentimes thought about scattering greenbeans around the floor for him to eat :) He would do it too.. hmm.....

That is great! Thanks for the tips. Leiana would eat bananas, eggs, and hotdogs for every meal if I let her. Ok, those aren't the ONLY things she likes, but sometimes it feels like it!

Ha ha! Great ideas. One thing that works for us is letting Miller dip the unwanted food. We have found that he will eat almost ANYTHING if he can dip it in ketchup!

Grace Elizabeth LOVES the fork...but hates a spoon, I think she is afraid it is going to be rice cereal or something (which she hasn't had in probably 6 months).
I will take your mommy confession tip, it will save me a lot of sweeping!
