kindergarten

I really can't believe it's finally here. It has been a long (but good) summer, and we've been anxiously awaiting this day for quite a while, but it just always seemed so far away. Now it's here!
Last week Camden had his assessment day, which is where the kids go to school for the day and all the teachers observe and assess the kids to see where they are at academically, socially, verbally, etc. They then determine how to place kids in their classes. It's my understanding that each class has students with a variety of skill levels. There are even a 2 or 3 kids in his class who speak spanish! I think it will be neat for him to be around kids with a different culture than what he's used to.
Yesterday, we went to school to find out who his teacher was, meet her, and explore the classroom a little. I am THRILLED that Camden got the teacher I was hoping he would get. She's a young, vibrant, extremely passionate teacher. I meant to get a picture of Camden with her, but totally forgot. There is also an assistant in the class at all times, and she is just as sweet as can be. Camden is also so excited that one of his good friends from preschool is in his class! I am thankful that he will have someone that he knows to help him ease into the new year before he starts making new friends. Camden's classroom was so fun... there were buckets of animals/toys, legos, art easels, a puppet theater, a "beach" theme reading area, and even a class pet - a hamster named Peanut. What a fun class! I am confident that Camden is going to have such a passion for learning in this environment. I read over the class information and just kept getting giddy thinking about how much fun he is going to have this year. Each day they have a special time reserved for fun things like art, music, P.E., science, social studies, etc. One of my favorite little pieces of information I read was that instead of calling rules "rules", they call them "promises". At the beginning of the year, they all promise to do/not do certain things, and if they don't do it, they get talked to for not "keeping their promise". I just think that's such a cute idea. It sounds so much better than "rules".
I dropped Camden off this morning in the carpool line, which means I drive up, a safety patrol student helps him out of the car, and he makes his way into the school and to his classroom. I can't believe my baby is big enough for that. I know I will miss him being gone a lot of the day, but am so so excited for what's in store for him. I can't wait to watch him grow and learn. It's so much fun having a kid this age!

Here are some pictures from yesterday and today:

Camden's cubby!

2 of Camden's friends from preschool... the one on the left is Merritt... they are in the same class!

Getting ready to leave for the big day!

I think he is so handsome.

They are going to miss each other so much!

Almost there!
I can't wait to pick him up at 3:45 and hear all the details about this day!

I still cannot believe it! He is growing up way too fast. Love the pics of him and A together too. Tell Cam that I was once a Brooks Bee (a very long time ago!).

So like I said earlier... I have not had access to the internet and it is too hard to look at blogs on my phone. But I bought a cord so I could at least plug into the router and looking at your blog was one of the first things I had to do! I started balling about halfway through this post.... I cannot believe Camden is old enough to be dropped off at school and walk to his classroom... that makes him seem so grown up! I love the pictures and I am so glad he has a good teacher! I can't wait to hear more about it!!!
