public safety day

As I was looking through iPhoto this morning I realized I forgot to post these pictures. A couple of weeks ago we headed over to Leesville High School for Public Safety Day. My friend Amber told me about this the day before, and we are SO glad we went! The whole thing was free, including free hotdogs for lunch!! It was such a neat thing to experience, for adults just as much as kids.

We got to watch these firemen extract the dummy from the car, as if they would in a real accident. They used the jaws of life and took the door off the car. Camden thought this was so cool. I did too, since I've never (thankfully) seen it happen in real life.
Camden got to put out a real fire with a real fire extinguisher!

Here he is on an ambulance listening to the EMT talk about what an ambulance is for and all the things they use if someone is in there. She did a good job of making it non-scary. Camden said he thought it would be fun to ride in one. Knock on wood. :)

Checking out the neat fire truck. He kept asking questions about that ax in front of him and the fireman was telling him what they use it for.

I thought this was so cool. It was a little trailor shaped like a house, and a couple of kids got to go inside and listen to a fire chief talk about fire safety. We had to stay outside, so we didn't get to hear exactly what he was saying. After about 5 minutes, we started seeing smoke coming out of the window and got a little curious. They showed the kids what to do and how to escape a house if there was a fire. So cool!

Getting a look at the police car and all the things inside.

He even got to ride a police horse! I think it's so neat that these things actually still exist today! We always see them riding around downtown.

I sure hope they have it again next year!
