tornadoes and puddles

We had quite a Saturday afternoon. If you live in Raleigh/surrounding areas, it's likely you did too! We had severe weather and tornadoes, crazy heavy rain, hail, and lots of wind (obviously). We had all been out running errands most of the morning and early afternoon that day, and we literally got back about 30 minutes before the storm started. When we got home, we didn't have any power. Without power, we were unable to watch the news and really know what was going on. Honestly, I did not think it was supposed to be as bad as it turned out. Thankfully, our little area didn't have any tornadoes or damaging winds, but lots of areas around us (including my parent's neighborhood downtown) had tons and tons of trees down and debris was everywhere! There were some lives lost and many homes damaged and destroyed. We are so burdened for those whose lives were affected by this very quick, but violent storm!

I can't remember the last time I saw rain so heavy. We have a creek right behind our house, and I have never seen it so close to cresting (the water overflowing out of the creek). It reminded me of a raging river rapid. Crazy! The boys weren't terribly afraid, but you can tell they were a little iffy about the weather. Anderson kept saying, "it's gonna be a flood!!!" over and over. Camden could not stop watching the creek from the window. It still makes me laugh to think about when Anderson said, "it's gonna be a flood! Noah is gonna come!" We never had to go into our half bathroom (located under the stairs... where we would go in the case of severe weather) but my parents told us they had to go into their closet for a little bit. I am just so thankful we are all ok and that the storm is over! It was certainly not a fun experience.

When the storm passed, the boys wanted to go outside and jump in the puddles. So, we did! I did this all the time as a kid, so of course I had to let them experience it too. You can see lots of leaves on the ground from the wind.

Love it! I love how flexible you are to do fun but messy things! And I love those sweet boys, but that goes without saying! :)

Our puddles all disappear pretty much the moment it stops raining. And Leiana totally napped through the whole storm... it was awful a couple of blocks from us, but here it was just a lot of rain... our neighborhood was practically untouched. Crazy how that works.
